By Lerato Serero SHARPEVILLE. - A 32-year-old epileptic mother's youthful body was eaten alive by flames in Phomolong Section on Friday morning. Witnesses allege that Mantele Dorah Tladi might have been trying to cook something on the electric stove where she possibly suffered an epileptic fit. According to her live-in lover, Thabang Tshabalala, earlier that Friday morning he decided to take their 6-month-old boy with him to run some errands in Vereeniging when he received a call that he must immediately go back home. That was when he discovered the terrible situation. "After receiving the call I immediately rushed back home, only to discover that Dorah was consumed by the fire. I don't know what went wrong, but she was epileptic and it is possible that she might have suffered an attack while an electrical appliance was on. The shack caught fire and I have lost everything! As I speak to you the only thing that my child and I have are the clothes were are wearing," says the teary-eyed Tshabalala. Tshabalala says that he had taken their young son to town with him as he wanted to give the young mother time and space to clean and do laundry, as she had planned to do so on that day. According to witnesses, Tladi was a strong epileptic sufferer, so much so that when she gave birth earlier this year, her child had to be taken away from her for a while in fear of him suffering injuries after she had suffered another one of her attacks. Sharpeville SAPS spokesperson Inspector Aubrey Moopeloa says that in cases like this a thorough investigation needs to be done. Investigations are underway and no foul play is suspected. |

By Mduduzi Mathebula EVATON - Abram Mbazo Musombululo was nearly hacked to death in the full view of neighbours and a taxi driver next to the main road of the Ghetto Shopping Centre in Zone 7b recently. What makes this incident all the more shocking is the fact the man allegedly responsible for the hacking is someone whom Musombululo knows very well. Musombululo, who works as a security guard at the new Zone 7 shops, says that he had just finished a shift and was taking a break when the young man approached him with a panga. "I wanted to ask him why he is carrying such a dangerous weapon, but before I knew it I was banged on the head. I fell dizzy, only to feel a second bang, which resulted in me bleeding. This was when the man started hacking me in the back, but luckily I could run away. I lost a lot of blood and a bystander helped me. While I was lying on the ground, the assailant came back and kicked me several times in full view of a group of bystanders before he went his way. I still have no idea what I did to that man," he says. Ward councillor Bozzy Letlhake, who took Musombululo to the clinic, is still stunned by the incident. "We trust that police will help on this matter," he says. Musombululo spent a few days in the intensive care and week in hospital. At this stage he is recuperating while police are on the lookout for the suspect. Inspector Molefe Mokoena confirms that a case of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily grievously bodily harm has been opened. |

By Sonqoba Kunene SEBOKENG. - There seems to be no end in sight for violent crimes against women as Lebogang Maitse found out the hard way when a bullet from her boyfriend's gun scathed her on Sunday. Maitse and her boyfriend were not arguing over money or adultery as it usually happens with cases of domestic violence, but rather the whole incident apparently took place over a key. The boyfriend demanded the keys to the couple's house and when Maitse refused to hand them over, a quarrel ensued. Then, out of the blue, the boyfriend allegedly pulled out a firearm and fired a shot at Maitse. Luckily, the bullet only brazed her on top of her eye, but left her in a state of shock. The boyfriend (25) was arrested by the Sebokeng SAPS and police spokesperson Superintendent Maria Mazibuko says that the suspect faces a charge of attempted murder. "We are appealing to our people to respect women and treat them with dignity," says Mazibuko. |

By Lerato Serero VANDERBIJLPARK. - Swift reaction from the Vanderbijlpark SAPS led to the arrest of a perjury suspect on Friday afternoon. It is alleged that the employee of a local businessman reported a housebreaking and theft case at the Vanderbijlpark police station and police reacted swiftly. On their arrival on the scene they found the complainant at an empty house in Well Street. Police spokesperson Inspector Kinnie Steyn says, "What caught their attention was a bakkie parked in front of the house with the alleged stolen kitchen cupboards and a stove on it". It is alleged that the complainant then failed to provide a reasonable explanation on how the stolen goods got on to the bakkie and was subsequently arrested on charges of housebreaking, theft and perjury. The value of the goods is reported to be R40 000. Steyn adds that the same suspect has reported a total of five similar cases between June 2008 and October 2008 and that the total amount of money for the goods stolen then was R66 000. All those cases have been reopened for investigation, as it is suspected that these cases were reported to lodge false insurance cases. The suspect appeared at the Vanderbijlpark magistrate's court and was granted bail of R1 000. He will appear again on September 15. . |

By Mduduzi Mathebula. ORANGE FARM. - Driezik 4 is one of the first settlements erected in Orange Farm, but when one compares this area with those surrounding it, one would never say this due to the poor state it is in. Because of this the community took up their rights and marched along the Golden Highway for most of last week in demand of service delivery. According to one of the fuming community members, they started to protest at 04:00 on Monday morning, resulting in the Golden Highway being closed due to stones being rolled unto the road - a clear sign that this protest was not a peaceful one. Matters got worse when protestors threatened to burn down a local school lest local government hear their grievances. They say that their local councillor is not taking them seriously and that he does not care about them. Police spokesperson Inspector Molefe Mokoena says that police and metro police eventually managed to calm the angry crowd down so that the road could be reopened. However, this only came after police had to use force in the form of rubber bullets to disperse the menacing masses. "We have been living in this area for the last 15 years, but other areas are developed and they have electricity, sewerage, toilets, proper roads. We still live in the wilderness," concludes a furious community member, Gugu Phungula. |
