SEBOKENG. - There seems to be no end in sight for violent crimes against women as Lebogang Maitse found out the hard way when a bullet from her boyfriend's gun scathed her on Sunday.

Maitse and her boyfriend were not arguing over money or adultery as it usually happens with cases of domestic violence, but rather the whole incident apparently took place over a key.

The boyfriend demanded the keys to the couple's house and when Maitse refused to hand them over, a quarrel ensued.

Then, out of the blue, the boyfriend allegedly pulled out a firearm and fired a shot at Maitse. Luckily, the bullet only brazed her on top of her eye, but left her in a state of shock.

The boyfriend (25) was arrested by the Sebokeng SAPS and police spokesperson Superintendent Maria Mazibuko says that the suspect faces a charge of attempted murder.

"We are appealing to our people to respect women and treat them with dignity," says Mazibuko.
