EVATON - Abram Mbazo Musombululo was nearly hacked to death in the full view of neighbours and a taxi driver next to the main road of the Ghetto Shopping Centre in Zone 7b recently.

What makes this incident all the more shocking is the fact the man allegedly responsible for the hacking is someone whom Musombululo knows very well.

Musombululo, who works as a security guard at the new Zone 7 shops, says that he had just finished a shift and was taking a break when the young man approached him with a panga. "I wanted to ask him why he is carrying such a dangerous weapon, but before I knew it I was banged on the head. I fell dizzy, only to feel a second bang, which resulted in me bleeding. This was when the man started hacking me in the back, but luckily I could run away. I lost a lot of blood and a bystander helped me. While I was lying on the ground, the assailant came back and kicked me several times in full view of a group of bystanders before he went his way. I still have no idea what I did to that man," he says.

Ward councillor Bozzy Letlhake, who took Musombululo to the clinic, is still stunned by the incident. "We trust that police will help on this matter," he says.

Musombululo spent a few days in the intensive care and week in hospital. At this stage he is recuperating while police are on the lookout for the suspect. Inspector Molefe Mokoena confirms that a case of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily grievously bodily harm has been opened.
